Applying for Chinese Government Scholarship - China University Programme

Peoples travel varieties of places from inside countries to overseas for numbers of reasons. Study abroad may be one of the motives behind the travel abroad. Students, scholars, and researchers move abroad from countries of South to countries of North and vice-versa in order to get their quality education and research. For example, students from the countries like Nepal, India, Bangladesh, China, Pakistan, African countries and Latin American countries travel to the USA, the UK and many European countries, Australia and New Zealand etc. Also, young graduates, researchers, and professors these days migrate to the countries of the South like China, India, and Brazil etc., for their better research career. These days, studying in China and pursuing a research career in China has been the best option for young people from many countries. In this post, I am going to instruct how to apply for Chinese Government Scholarship - China University Programme (CSC-CUP), one of the opportunities for study and research career, based on my own experience. Before the instructions, I present here types of scholarships provided by the People's Republic of China.

The Chinese University Program only supports graduate students in the 289 designated Chinese universities, certain provincial education offices in specific provinces or autonomous regions with the full scholarship. It supports only 3 academic years for masters students and no more than 4 academic years for doctoral scholars.
What does it cover?
The scholarship covers both major study and Chinese language/preparatory study, as specified in the Admission Letter. It covers tuition waiver, accommodation, stipend, and comprehensive medical insurance.
Where and when to apply?
Prospective students can apply to the designated Chinese universities undertaking this program. The time of applying it is normally between early January and early April. However, time may depend on each university; so, the student should consult the individual university.
Who are eligible to apply?
To apply for the CSC-CUP, a person must be a citizen of a country other than the People’s Republic of China and be in good health. He/she must be with following age and education criteria in order to apply for the different academic level:
- a bachelor’s degree holder and no more than 35 when applying for the master’s level;
- a master’s degree holder and no more than 40 when applying for the doctoral level.
- Firstly, contact your prospective supervisor for a letter of acceptance or contact director of international student office (whose contact email may be provided on a website of a university).
- Prepare documents necessary for the application according to an instruction provided by a personnel you have contact or the application documents checklist;
- Apply directly to your target university or follow instructions given below sections;
- Complete the online application procedure on CSC information management system for International students via http://www.campuschina.org [some universities may ask you first to complete campus online application process]; submit online the completed Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship, and print a hard copy. Consult a target university for Agency Number and a name of a subject you are going to enroll in order to complete an online application.
- Submit all your application documents (hardcopy) and printed form of CSC online application to your target university before deadline [very few universities may not ask you hardcopy documents].
- Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship (written in Chinese or English)
- Notarized copy of the highest diploma: If your graduation is not completed at a date of application prove your current student status or expected graduation date. Also, attach documents in languages other than Chinese or English with notarized Chinese or English translations (mandatory).
- Academic transcripts (written in Chinese or English): Transcripts in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized Chinese or English translations.
- A Study Plan or Research Proposal (written in Chinese or English): The study plan must be more than 800 words or even 2000 words. The length may vary from university to university.
- Two Recommendation Letters (written in Chinese or English): Letters of recommendation must be from two full professors or associate professors.
- Academic articles (up to 3 if published or under publication process )
- A CD of your own works (only required for Arts students): Applicants for music studies are requested to submit a CD of their own musical works. Applicants for the fine arts programs must submit a CD of their own works which include two sketches, two color paintings, and two other works.
- Foreigner Physical Examination Form (photocopy): Only a photocopy of Foreigner Physical Examination Form should be sent. Notice that the Foreigner Physical Examination Form must be with the signature of the attending physician, the official stamp of the hospital, a sealed photograph of the applicant. Please carefully plan your physical examination schedule as the result is valid for only 6 months.
- The copy of valid HSK Certificate (if available) or language certificates like IELTS, TOEFL, and GRE: For minimum scores necessary on language testing systems, consult scholarship notice of target university.
